Summit 2023 scope

EcoFuel Summit 2023 – Innovations in Carbon Capture to Sustainable Fuels, 28 November 2023, Online

Sustainable synthesis of fuels and chemicals by Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) is one of the important pillars for reaching “net zero” emissions by 2050.

The EU funded EcoFuel project addresses this challenge by introducing an entirely new process chain which includes electrochemically enhanced CO2 capture from the air, electrocatalytic CO2 conversion to olefins followed by thermal-catalytic olefin conversion to produce drop-in synthetic hydrocarbon fuels for hard-to-decarbonize transport sectors. The keynote lectures of the symposium will give a status report of the EcoFuel project in four addressed topics:

  • CO2 Feedstock for Synthetic Fuels - Lead: Axiom
  • Electrochemical CO2 conversion to multi-carbon products - Lead: TU Berlin
  • From multi-carbon intermediates to liquid fuels - Lead: Fraunhofer IGB
  • TEA/LCA of synthetic fuels - Lead: AVL

Invited contributions from similar boundary-pushing projects will set the virtual stage to discuss opportunities and challenges for new research activities that ultimately bring us a step closer towards establishing a low- or zero-emission carbon cycle.
